“Lights from My Childhood”

(My Mom’s house. Blagoveshchensk, Far East USSR)

My Dad was in charge of Christmas trees in our family. After he passed away my Mom promised me that we would have a Christmas tree every year!

Back then, it was difficult to find a tree in the Soviet Union, everything was scarce. I remember one year my Mom found a tree in the outskirt of the town. It was late evening, snowing and we had to drag the tree to our house. Picture this, late evening, a woman with a little kid dragging a tree on snowy streets.
